The market for cab services in India is growing rapidly. Taxi service companies like Ola-Uber have established their dominance in this sector. But now the government is also going to enter this field.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has recently announced that the government is planning to launch a new taxi service based on a cooperative model. The aim of this government cab service is to give more benefits to the drivers and provide affordable services to the consumers.

What will the government taxi service be like?

This cooperative-run taxi service proposed by the government is being prepared to give tough competition to private companies like Ola and Uber. The main goal of this service is to give more benefits and empowerment to the drivers.

Currently, cab aggregators charge huge commission amount from the drivers, which limits their income. But in this new model, the drivers will get the profit directly and they will not have to pay huge commission to any private company.

Drivers will have fun, opportunity to earn more

Amit Shah said that the biggest beneficiary of this cooperative cab service will be the taxi drivers.

Lower commission cut: Platforms like Ola and Uber charge up to 20-30% commission from drivers, whereas in the government cooperative model it will be much less.
Better insurance and security: Drivers will get more social security benefits such as health insurance, accident insurance and pension.
Direct share in dividends: In the government cooperative model, a share of the profits will go to the drivers, thereby increasing their income.

Ola-Uber will get tough competition

Companies like Ola and Uber have a strong hold in the Indian market, but they have often faced many controversies. Customers are often upset with increased fares and surge pricing. Drivers have been constantly complaining about low commission and unfair treatment.

Questions have also been raised many times regarding the quality of service. The arrival of the government's new cab service will pose a big challenge to these companies because this service can provide cheaper fares, more transparency and better economic opportunities for drivers.

How will it be operated?

This new cab service will be run under the cooperative model, that is, the drivers themselves will be its owners. This service will be under government control and will not depend on any private aggregator.

The government is planning to run this scheme through a digital platform, which will allow consumers to book taxis easily. This will also benefit consumers. There will be no hidden charges due to cheap fares and transparent pricing.

They will sweat

This new taxi service being introduced by the government can give tough competition to companies like Ola-Uber. It will not only be beneficial for the drivers but will also provide more reliable and economical service to the consumers.

It will be interesting to see in the coming times to what extent this government cooperative model is able to change the Indian cab industry.
