How did the banned Chinese apps return? From Shareit to Xender, everything is visible

Banned apps

Did you remember anything after reading names like file sharing Xender, entertainment app MangoTV and Youku? You have guessed it right.

These are the Chinese apps that were banned by the Indian government in the year 2020. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had ordered the removal of a total of 267 such apps from Google Play Store and App Store.

Short video platform TikTok was also included in the 267 banned apps. But now these apps have made a comeback in India (Chinese apps re-appear in India). A total of 36 banned apps have again become available for download.

Has the government lifted the ban? So is TikTok going to come back? No, there is nothing like that. Rather, these apps have made a backdoor entry. They have come back to India by using some tricks. In simple words, they have caught our ears not from here but from there. Let us tell you the whole story.

Entry of 36 Chinese apps

Many of these apps appearing on Google's Play Store and Apple's App Store have changed their owners and some have changed their addresses. Some have slightly changed the name or some have created a clone. India Today's Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) team has caught them .

For example, Shareit- Transfer, Share Files has now become Shareit- Fast File Share. Xender has been renamed to Xender- File Share, Share Music.

36 previously banned Chinese apps make a comeback in India

The name has changed a little and the full name of the owner i.e. the developer has now become Xender (HK) Limited. Meaning if you cannot come from China, you can come from Hong Kong.

Chinese apps re-appear in india

The features and logo have been kept almost the same as the old one. Entry through the side door has not been made only in file sharing apps.

Rather, such apps are also seen in many categories like gaming, video editing, entertainment. For example, the streaming app of Chinese company Alibaba's YOUKU, which after being banned, has come under the name "YOUKU-Drama, Film, Show, Anime".

The developer is still Alibaba, just the address is not in China. Another app of Alibaba "Mobile Taobao" has been given entry only under the name Taobao.

Chinese apps came to India by changing their names

However, the developers of all the 36 apps are not Chinese. 13 have been developed by Chinese companies. The address of 3 is Singapore and 2 is Vietnam.

8 are also registered in the name of Indian developers and some are from South Korea and Bangladesh. Meaning, they got in from wherever they got the chance.

They have come in but that does not mean that you should welcome them. It means that you should not download them. There is no need to tell where their data centers will be.
