Currently, onion is being sold at Rs 80 to 100 per kg in most cities of the country, while the price of garlic has crossed Rs 400 per kg.

The rising prices of potatoes, onion, garlic and green vegetables have affected the household budget.

Both the sellers and the customers are upset with this situation. There is silence in the markets, and people are cooking by leaving onions to avoid expensive onions.

Expensive onion is making people cry-

Onion prices have risen sharply to Rs 80 per kg, which has upset both customers and sellers. The price of onion in the wholesale market has increased from Rs 40-60 to Rs 70-80 per kg.

Apart from this, the wholesale price of garlic has reached Rs 300 while the retail price has reached Rs 400 per kg. The prices of green vegetables have also increased twofold, which is taking a toll on people's pockets.

Why onion became expensive again-

The main reason for the rise in onion prices is the disruption in the supply chain. According to traders of Azadpur Mandi, the old crop has ended and the new crop is not being supplied.

Prices are rising due to the shortage of new crop and increase in exports. According to the report of Economics Times, prices have also risen due to crop failure in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The price of onion in Pimpalgaon, Nashik has increased from Rs 51 to Rs 70 per kg. Exports have increased due to the removal of import duty by Bangladesh.

Onion broke the record of 5 years-

Onion prices have broken the record of the last 5 years. Onion price hike has reached Rs 54 per kg in Lasalgaon market of Nashik, which is the highest level in five years.

Due to lack of supply and increase in demand, wholesale prices of onion have increased by 30 to 35%.

The rising prices also reminded the record of December 2019, when onion prices had reached Rs 5,656. This situation has created difficulties for consumers.
